A LOVE LETTER AND TRIBUTE TO THE MOST SPECIAL PUP, MILODear Milo,They say a dog may only be a part of your life, but to the dog, you are their whole world.If only I fully understood the gravity of those words then, I wonder if I would've held you closer and have less regrets now?I was 19 years old when I first met and fell in love with you at first sight in Dallas Fort Worth, Texas. I had no idea then that I would fall so deeply in love with a little mutt of a pup; so small, so smart, and so bratty yet adorable. You were far from the breeds I had in mind when I imagined myself having a dog, but when I saw your fluffy little body, your one-up-one-down big ears, your big brown eyes, and your cute little face, my heart was instantly yours. Did you know? I named you after my absolutely favorite chocolate milk "Milo" that I always drank growing up in Thailand because the first picture I saw of you, your coat was more brown, and that's what it reminded me of.You were just a 7-month old small puppy from the shelter with so much energy, curiosity, and a lot of attitude. You didn't bark at me when you first met me which was unusual for you. You did, however, argue/barked back when I told you "No" because I was a stranger, and it was so funny looking back. Nevertheless, you were an extremely fast learner, you learned and remembered all sorts of tricks in under 15 minutes (as long as there were treats involved)! You loved rough play like tug-of-war, being swung around like a helicopter, and of course, treats.After that visit, every single moment I spoke to mom or anyone was about you. I would think about you at all times and tell them all how cute you were and how clever you were with all sorts of stories because I want to be with you so badly. Eventually, after about a year or two, mom gave in, and was excited to meet you.The next time I met you, you were around 2 years old, having traveled around and lived with different owners. You were more mature and calm, you had also grown longer (your body used to be shorter!). But, you remembered me and that was more than enough. I prepared for your trip to come back home with me; a crate, thick layers of blankets, your favorite toys, water bottle, etc. Little did you know that you were going to be flying across the country!I couldn't sit still the entire flight and kept worrying about you. When they brought you out in SeaTac airport upon arrival, I jumped with joy that you were fine, albeit rightfully horrified. I brought you home and you immediately went to sleep on my bed with me, only to bark at mom when she got home because you had never met her.Little did you know that you were going to fall so deeply in love with her too. I had to go on a short 3-day pre-planned trip, and since that trip, you slept on mom's bed every single night. When I told you that "you have to make her fall in love with you too so we can keep you," it was like you fully understood those words because you had mom wrapped around your little paw from then on.To us, you weren't just a pup. You were and will always be our precious family member. You saved me from my darkest days like a ray of sunshine when the skies are gray. When I was diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder and was bedridden because I simply couldn't find the strength to get up, you stayed by my side the entire time. You who normally slept with mom, would come and stay by my side at all times. It was like you knew that I was hurting. It was like you knew that if you left me alone for too long, I would be gone. And I couldn't hurt myself, not when you were around.You were always a joy to be around and everyone who has met you couldn't help but adore you. You were friendly, loving, curious, and gentle. You were all bark and no bite, you didn't have a single mean bone in your body. But you were protective of us when you needed to be. You enjoyed cuddling and giving kisses. You were always so sweet, too sweet in fact.Your last day, October 21, 2023 was the start of the hardest days I've ever had to endure and the day I finally understood the true meaning of heartbreak.Milo, you are loved tremendously. You are loved beyond measures. You've touched on so many lives. Your love turned mom to a huge dog lover, did you know that she's going to go back to school to study K9 nutrition? Your love turned me into a believer in spirituality because it means that I can hold onto the hopes that you're still around. Your love birthed the Milo & Friends project where I hope to keep your memories alive and share your love with the world.You were my greatest blessing. I am not particularly religious, but for you, I want to believe. I want to believe in spirituality, I want to believe in the idea of heaven, I want to believe in the afterlife. I will always pray for you to be happy, healthy, not lonely as you play with Pookie and the other animals over the Rainbow Bridge in Heaven. I will always pray that you know how much you are loved by us. I will always pray that you will either wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge or that you will come find us.You will always be my first born, you will always be my baby. You will always be our family's baby - the baby of the house. Some may not understand why I love and mourn so deeply for a fur baby, but the greatest joy and pain will be understood one day when you have loved and lost a special bond unlike any other, a soul so special that surpasses the physical form, a love so wonderful that it will surpass all years to come.I miss burying my face into your soft fur and smelling the comforting vanilla biscuit and cookie scent, making me feel so cozy. I miss your wet little heart shaped nose. I miss your kisses. I miss your big floppy ears. I miss you so terribly, but still, I will always hold onto hope that we will meet again one day.If I had one wish, it would be to turn back time. I would walk you all the time just to see you happy because of how much you loved walks. I would go and be with you every single weekend regardless of how tired I am. I would play with you more and being less on my phone or computer. I would take you to the beaches and parks and let you run to your heart content. I would buy you a new toy every week. I would have rescued you sooner. I would prioritize you over anything if I knew then like I know now how short of a life you would have and how much you truly meant to me. I would give you the world.You were the only boy I've ever consistently loved throughout all these years.
I've loved you for over 12 years, and I will love you forevermore.
I will always love you forever.Goodnight Milo, my baby. Sweet dreams, my sunshine.
